The Reunion that Almost Didn’t Happen!
Previous attempts and conflicting schedules had dimmed Sophie’s hope to see Pastor Joe in America. However, the day before Sophie's return to South Africa, an 11th hour intervention was made by Aid Africa’s Children’s, Debbie Gilliam for Sophie to finally meet Pastor Joe.
Sophie has fond memories of Aid Africa’s mission trips to South Africa. One of them involved some long standing difficulty Sophie was having with a particular government agency. Aid Africa’s Children visited the government office and advocated for Sophie’s Creche. The next day, “things changed” as a result of that visit. Later, officials told Sophie how embarrassing this visit from the Americans was, that it wasn’t necessary. Although miraculously, the problem was fixed promptly.
Pastor Joe was part of the group that had made the memorable government visit for Sophie’s Creche. Though it had been years since Sophie and Pastor Joe last met, the bonds and warmth were clear. It was as if no time had passed between them.
Still waters run deep.
Never underestimate how simple acts of kindness and care, can mean so much others and create bonds that last a lifetime.
