This Wasn’t Possible a Year Ago
Sophie’s Creche did their First Make and Bake this year. It was only possible because Aid Africa’s Children’s generous donors rallied to build her a new kitchen. Replacing the kitchen with its leaky roof that endangered the Creche’s food supply during the rainy season no longer haunts them.
The years of waking up in the middle of the night to grab buckets to catch the rain in the kitchen are over.
Supporters also gave Sophie a real stove with a real oven! This replaced her 2 plate hot plate which produced between 80-100 meals per day for the Creche kids. They also gave her a new refrigerator that replaced the one with the door supported by rocks to open and close it. Aid Africa’s Children also gave Sophie needed a shelving unit, so she could stop using her table to hold her kitchen items so she could have an open workspace.
This historic picture commemorates the end of all the years Sophie tried to work around the Baking Curriculum for Toddlers. In the past, Sophie would try to bake on her 2 plate hotplate. Sometimes, she would bake outdoors on a fire.
Now, children are being prepped with hair nets and aprons in their brand new kitchen with their first real oven for their first baking class!
