Toddlers Get Toys For the First Time!
Christmas comes early at Sophie’s Creche! Today, was the unveiling of the toys bought for Sophie’s Creche! Those changes were made due to the generosity of Aid Africa’s Children, and Marty and Melva Stockwell.
In America, “90% of pre-school play involves playing with toys.” At Sophie’s Creche in South Africa, toddlers have been without toys for many years because food, water, and basic essentials come first. Toys are considered a luxury.
Now, kids at Sophie’s Creche get a chance to choose, share and play with an assortment of toys! Playing with dolls together, racing and chasing a motorized car or truck for the first time is a heart-warming sight!
According to UNICEF, “learning through play” especially in early child development is considered "central to quality early childhood pedagogy and education.” The role of playing and toys is integral to the growth and development of a child’s creativity, social skills, imagination and team work.
Play encourages kids to explore and discover a new world around them in a safe and structured environment.
