Students Celebrate the Arrival of Spring!

On September 1st, South Africans celebrate Spring Day! It’s considered the first day of spring and the welcomed warm weather. Young children celebrate by wearing bright clothes to school, and colorful flowers in their hair.

In this case, since water shortages are a serious problem, Sophie had the kids make colorful hats in lieu of wearing flowers.

In the past, children would celebrate by throwing water at each other, to welcome the warm weather. Some offices will even ask employees to dress up for Spring Day.
