Heritage Day Highlights

For Sophie there are no lessons plans on how to celebrate Heritage Day in South Africa. Sophie spends a great deal of thought figuring out ways to celebrate their heritage on a limited budget. The artwork she is producing is for the children to take home and celebrate their culture. 
  

Sophie’s Transcript:  

"Hi LuAnn, here is beautiful colorful flowers in a vase, all hand done, I am sending you where they start to do it, and this is the finished product. Beautiful...

We celebrate  cultural day, (also known as Heritage Day). We have multiple cultures here in South Africa. Here, we are doing a house you get in Cape Town...In Cape Town we find white, but most of the people who use these houses, we call them, “the colored people" because of the colored wood house.  It is a source of their pride. They celebrate on Heritage Day with lots and lots of plenty of flowers. It must be finished by tomorrow because the children must take them home. They are absolutely awesome. Thank you."
