It’s All Hands On Deck!
Not all creches in Africa have a “real” kitchen with a “real stove” and “real oven.” For many years, Sophie's Creche, like most African creches (nurseries), skipped the suggested “baking” class because stoves and ovens were too expensive. In some cases, “Make and Bake” events were done outside with wood fires.
Thanks to the generosity of Aid Africa’s Children’s donors, Sophie has a much-needed new kitchen, new stove, new oven, and metal shelving for her kitchen appliances.
Today's "Make and Bake" Day at Sophie’s Creche is all hands on deck with each child getting a hands-on baking experience.
Sophie stresses that each child take turns throughout the baking process. Whether it’s stirring, pouring the batter into the pan, carrying the pan to the oven, they all participate. Along the way, teachers support their every move to ensure everything is done carefully.
