Students Get a Seat at the Table

At Sophie’s Creche, kids have been eating their meals on the floor because they have no chairs or tables.

Sophie wanted something better for her creche kids. She didn’t want them to get used to eating on the floors and living without chairs. She wanted to them to KNOW the difference between eating on a chair at the table with cutlery vs eating on the floor with their plate on their laps. For Sophie, eating on the floor was reminiscent of her apartheid childhood. Her family were workers on a farm and were not given chairs to sit on, so all meals were eaten sitting on the floor. Sophie wasn’t even allowed to play with the "other kids" because her family was “the help.”

Seeing the creche kids without chairs or tables was a constant reminder of the oppression and lack Sophie and many others felt during the apartheid.

Sophie was determined to make this one small difference at the creche.

Chairs and tables in a classroom can’t be taken for granted in Africa. Sophie’s Creche is still not government funded and she relies on donations to address the needs of these kids.

With the help of our generous donors and supporters, Aid Africa’s Children was able to purchase these chairs at Sophie’s Creche. It makes a BIG difference! Thank you for everything! Everything helps!
